Archive for March, 2009I really like the idea behind this Wale mixtape, it is a sampling of some of his songs to catch people up on his music to date, it is almost like a Wale’s indie career greatest hits album lol. I am really excited to see “Uptown Roamers” on there, it is still my favorite song and is another song that I bumped for about 4 months straight. Anyways enough of my talking read what HipHopUpdate and DCtoBC had to say about their tape, Click the break for the download and link.
Link if your looking for the Back to the Feature Wale mixtape: Wale Mixtape – Back to the Feature UGK drops a video on us from their new album UGK 4 Life which drops today. Bun gets a collage of pictures of Pimp C to help with the video for his verse and it is well done. UGK is my shit, I didn’t listen to them much until about 4 years ago and since then it’s been on like Donkey Kong. They are the perfect group, Bun spitting the real talk and Pimp C (R.I.P.) has the charismatic flow and rhyming, it doesn’t get much better than when UGK jumps on and murders a track together. I also like the theme of this video wrapping up their careers as UGK due to Pimp’s death and looking back and reminiscing on their time together in the game, they have put in some work over the course of their careers. Go support the real hip-hop and buy this album. RAtheMC – “Cashmere Thoughts” Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. New project from the DMV which remixes Jay-Z’s iconic album, Reasonable Doubt, with the artists spitting original lyrics over the recreated beats to make each song their own. Everyone is on this tape, RAtheMC, Lyriciss, Nando, AB the Producer, XO, AP, Pro’Verb, Lyriciss and just about everyone else and it is great to see everyone come together for a common project. I also was jealous the other night that I wasn’t in DC for the release party, it seemed dope and most of the people I follow in DMV hip-hop on Twitter were at the event and all were excited to be a part of it. Click the break to get the download link, tracklist (click on the image to enlarge it) and a video from the party the other night.

I decided to throw up a some sneakers I have liked over the past few weeks together in the same post because I would be throwing them up way too much if I posted a pair everytime they caught my eye. These are the Lakai x Where the Wild Things Are shoes which, after the Nike Coraline Dunk, is a trend I like with shoe companies teaming up to promote individual movies. The director of the movie, Spike Jonze, has done some work with Lakai for a skate video before so I guess this collaboration shouldn’t be a big surprise. The Stubb’s BBQ x Supra collaboration were designed for the SXSW festival that took place recently in Austin, TX. I love the collaboration with a BBQ spot and the natural leather look of the shoes. These are my favorite new sneaker in a few months, these just look clean to me. Click below to see more kicks. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. This kid has a great flow and lyrics and I’m sad it took me this long for me to listen to his music. When he come in at the beginning it kind of sounds like an old Gemini Gemstones song that I had a few years ago and I was feeling it back then, I wish I could remember the name of it though! At first, the title had me thinking that this track was gonna be corny but after thinking about it for a second it had me laughing and I realized it is very clever. I have a feeling you will be seeing a lot more J. Cole up here, so check back if you’re feeling him too. Download: J. Cole – Grown Simba Camp Lo releases a video that includes two of their tracks from their new album out now called Rob and Stone: Caught on Tape. The video doesn’t really feature “‘89 of Crime” until a snippet at the end and the it is mainly the track “On Smash”. There is nothing crazy about the video and the three artists are featured throughout in black and white but I love the “Meanie meanie meanie” line in the beginning from “Buddy” by De La Soul, that song was my jam back when I discovering hip-hop in middle school . Rob and Stone: Caught on Tape is a dope album so if you haven’t gotten it go out and support good hip-hop. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Curren$y has just been spewing out music recently with this song, “Star Power” and his featured verse on “Word Play” and all have been good tracks for different reasons. I still can’t get over his verse is “Word Play” though, he goes in and rides that beat flawlessly. All these songs are presumably to build up hype for his cleverly titled album This Ain’t No Mixtape dropping April 21st. “Fuck being next, my main concern is being current,” that is advice that a lot of rappers should take notice of and listen to what he is saying to in this song.
