Not only are do we get three DMV rappers who posted new joints at the same time but they are also some of my favorites doing it down there right now. I am not sure if this is part of a bigger project or just a single for the people but it is good and a legit track. I hadn’t heard of G-Way until this song but I was digging the beat too with the horn loop and the extremely fast hi hat hits on the drum loop. Maybe another song from the DMV for the fourth post of the day? You will have to check back and see. Download: Lyriciss – “They Told Me” (Prod. G-Way) We are going to keep it all DMV today, or at least for the most part. XO releases his newest mixtape and his first with his new label home of Studio 43. AB the Prodoucer gets all the production credits and the song I have heard so far (“Crabs In A Barrel”, “Go Hard” (Remix), “F.R.N.O.” ) have been great songs. I know I have said before but I am really excited for this mixtape because he has already released one of my favorite (possibly my favorite) albums of ’09 as one third of the group Diamond District. Check below the break for the tracklist and download. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. Download after the break. Drake apparently listened to exactly what I told him to do and I am glad for him. He officially has signed with Young Money records but signed a distribution deal through Universal Republic. This is the new way to go if you are an artist and it is all possible for you to make such a deal. You receive so much more money per CD and do not have to structure your career around what a major label (which all are doing terrible financially) says you should or should not do with it. Drake wants this to be known as him signing with an independent and I guess it kind of is but he will have major label help in getting the songs in your hands and ears. The past 5 or so years the line really has been blurring between indie and major label artists with deals like this and major labels wanting to establish “indie type labels” within their own corporate structure. Grab the download after the break. The newest single from 808′s & Heartbreak now has a cool animated video also to go along with it. I’m not even going to lie to, because I had not bought the album I hadn’t heard this song yet and it is… alright. I have let go of most of the hate I had for that album but I still am not crazy about it. I think I could give it a fair listen now and probably will end up doing that at some point soon and hopefully something on there surprises me. This song is much better though than “Heartless” and all the tracks where Kanye tries to be Mr. Hudson, I like Kanye’s music when he isn’t trying so hard to be a star and instead just makes his music. As Jay promised he delivers his new video right after the BET Awards and OnSmash gives us the first look at it. The video is cool just because of how much money is obviously behind the video with all the guest appearances like Harvey Keitel, Lyor Cohen and Bron Bron. This song is slowly starting to fade from my playlist, I like it and the sample but I still can’t get over how over the top the intro by Funk Master Flex and especially Mister Cee and the fact that he declares it dead but it really isn’t. Just my thoughts, enjoy the video because it is entertaining to see where all the big names fit in to the theme of the video. Blueprint 3 drops later this year.

This is really refreshing to see, since we are all down today we should take notice of this mixtape. RAtheMC was recently in the hospital and to show their support her friends who are artists all came together to create this mixtape for her to help her feel better. I just think this is one of the coolest gestures I have seen from the hip-hop community in a while and it is from from all the cats coming up in the DMV and really has to be a testament to how cool RAtheMC is as a person. This will probably sound corny but this type of thing makes me proud to be from the DMV and to play a part (however small it may be) in the scene that is emerging down there. Good work everyone and of course get well soon RA! Grab the link and tracklist after the break. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Thanks to Theophilus London too for doing a remix and bringing it back to my attention, don’t worry his remix is below the break. As you all know by now I listen to a bunch of different kinds of music and this song has a lot going on with it. First, The Very Best are “Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and European DJ duo Radioclit”. That was good to know because I didn’t before I found this song. Also Ezra Koenig is the singer for Vampire Weekend, possibly the best new band to have singing on a heavily influenced African melody and one of my favorite bands last summer. Get the downloads below the break and shouts to KTP for the original and FADER for the remix. This is the fourth and final episode of this series and I am sad to see it come to an end. In this installment he talks about the creative process and how he feels about being someone who creates music. After the interview we get Hope playing with a live band again and doing my second favorite track of his “Breathin’” (my favorite being “Change My Ways” still, I don’t even know if people know that track). What a great series and it would be cool to see more artists approach promotional stuff this way.
