Kanye drops a video for “Welcome to Heartbreak” off of 808’s & Heartbreak and it is all about the visuals. The effects are pretty crazy and when it first started I thought something was up with my computer but then I realized it was just the video. Some good news from Kid Cudi too, the word from his blog is that he and ‘Ye will be debuting a video for “Day N Nite” on 106 & Park tomorrow so be on the lookout for that. Rappers coming out with with videos a year to two after they released their songs seems to be the new trend these days but I’m not mad at it, I’m just glad to finally see these songs getting their due respect. But even better news for Cudi is that he did not actually get arrested over All Star weekend at the Reebok event where the police apparently took him out in cuffs, good to hear.

These effects looks rather familiar….

Yeah I saw that after I posted it. That video is probably the reason why they released this one with no marketing campaign and announced that “Amazing” will be the next single despite them releasing this video.

Sucks for them because I heard this video was released just 2 weeks ago so they both must have stumbled across the effect around the same time but Chairlift beat out Kanye on the release.

dude this completely reminded me of mgmt, their time to pretend video

in my opinion this is surprisingly good. i really thought that kanye, being on his artsy binge, would create something so out there that no one would care much for it, but i found myself really appreciating the video.

but about the song itself, i listened to it lots of times, especially since i think kid cudi’s hook is really well done. but i can never end up liking what kanye did with the song in terms of conveying the message with the lyrics. it just doesn’t feel completely sincere, listen to the verse about his sis getting married by the lake and you might see what i mean. it just doesn’t feel as real as it should to me.

maybe compare the sincerity in this to luda’s verse in i do it for hip-hop and it’ll make more sense. when luda spat his verse on that, you could really feel the conviction. welcome to heartbreak, not so much.

street lights was probably the best track from that album with paranoid being in second.

either way, i’ll be happy when kanye goes back to rapping. maybe then he’ll ease up on his moping (for someone so arrogant, he acts insecure alot)

actually corey, they didn’t stumble across the effect at the same time…

chairlift’s peeps figured it out last summer when they worked on Electric Feel for MGMT. It was supposed to be in that, but the digital fx crew they hired couldn’t figure out how to do it. But lo and behold, a couple months later, the same fx crew starts workin on this Kanye vid…
