Mayer has been on his grind lately giving us a FreEP full of covers a few weeks ago and now the this single which may or may not be from his next album. “A Long Time” still has his retro feel to it although it is more 70′s funk/R&B than classic Motown or Stax. I am sad to report that Mayer left Stones Throw, admittedly one of my favorite indie labels, to join up with the Evil Empire Universal Republic who are set to release his second album, How Do You Do, sometime later this year. Don’t forget to listen to that EP too, his singing has greatly improved and the first song had people turning heads in the office.
