24 hour karate school

I am feeling this song, Mos lays some hot verses and Ski, as always, comes correct with the beat. He utilizes some horns, guitar loops, bassline and a breakbeat which creates a chill beat which would fit any underground icon. Ski also announced that his album 24 Hour Karate School has received another release date after some confusion and will be dropping on us on Sept. 7th. It is a must get for me as most of the songs to date have been crazy.
Remember that? It’s a shame how Ski Beatz’s 24 Hour Karate School disappeared after such hype, but apparently Ski was having sample clearing issues. The tape still might be released, but by this point for me, if it drops then it drops and if it doesn’t then it doesn’t. It’s not like this track is helping much with my apathy either. All three sides to this song seem to phone it in and not put in much effort. If you’re feeling “Scaling The Building”, download here.
Yet another leak off of Ski Beatz and Dame Dash’s upcoming 24 Hour Karate School mixtape. Hopefully this is the last one – although all the leaks so far have been superb, I’d rather not hear the majority of a project before I can hear it in full. “Aerials” is one of those chill, slower tracks with a soulful hook. As always, we’ve got another big line-up of featuring artists, in case your music playlist didn’t look cluttered enough already. Seriously though it’s comendable how all of the large line-up tracks to come off this tape have sounded structured and secure. It’s easy to get a song cluttered when the number of featuring artists gets beyond two.
You don’t even have to listen to a single leak to know this will be a crazy tape. Look at that artwork, look at this track’s line-up, and tell me you’re not interested. All four artists go in to the fullest, the outcome of which is a non-stop tyrade of lyricism with no one holding back. Jay and Mos Def really hold it down and made their verses the highlights of this song. That’s not to say Grae and Ortiz didn’t deliver though because while Jay Electronica and Mos brought the quotables, Jean and Joell dominated in terms of sheer hunger. Again, 24 Hour Karate School should be coming out at the end of this month, but as you can tell from the “Spring 2010″ header on the poster, that’s subject to change.
This leaked some time ago but I wanted to wait until a proper version came out before posting it, and thanks to 2DBz, we now have it. Off of Ski Beatz & Dame Dash anticipated 24 Hour Karate School mixtape which should be dropping at the end of the month, “Taxi” is such a chill track, allowing both emcees to work their magic. The beat was perfect for Mos, allowing him to spin his poetry and croon to his heart’s content. I’ve never heard of Whosane before, but he came correct too and gave a nice verse. Keep on the lookout for this tape, it’s going to be a big one.
Yes, I did say this was going to drop today. However, this is the music biz, so deadlines and due dates don’t really mean anything. As you can see above, we’ve been treated to some crazy visuals which only adds to the excitement around this project. The full version has been pushed to March 30, but snippets and a tracklist have been released at the project’s website (shouts to Ski for hitting us up with that on the comments section). While I understand if Ski and co. need more time to polish the product, I’m just hoping this actually happens some time soon because the tracklist and leaks are too good.
I’m no fan of the current craze to slap a trailer video or behind-the-scenes video on every little thing in hip-hop, so rest assured that if I’m posting a trailer/teaser video, it’s for a project that you can’t afford to sleep on. Not too long ago, a track called “24 Hour Karate School” by Mos Def (with production from Apple Juice Kid) hit the blogs, and now we know that it is off of Dame Dash & Ski Beatz upcoming mixtape of the same name. With features from the likes of Jay Electronica, Curren$y, The Cool Kids, and Jean Grae, the tape looks promising to say the least. 24 Hour Karate School drops on Monday, February 15.
EDIT: Ski sent over the link for his upcoming project in the comment section. Get even more at www.24hourkarateschool.com
It is good to hear a song where Mos just straight up rhymes, everything I have heard from him lately has him singing. Actually scratch that, I just got to the very end and he throws singing in there just to mock me. Ski and Apple Juice, who I’m pretty sure are called Smokin Apples as a production duo, provide the beat which sounds like a James Brown sample nicely chopped up. If you haven’t been keeping up with the Apple Juice Kid you can grab his video by clicking on the links and also see his band The Remix Project backing up Skyzoo below the break.
