I refuse to think this is the official video for this song. Jay just did a video using the same typographic typing (words and letters used to make pictures) to make portraits of himself and B.I.G. in "Brooklyn Go Hard". This video is the biggest hack job in recent memory if it turns out to be the official video, and also what the hell with the typographic typing just stopping with a picture of Kanye? kanye_west-paranoid__rmx___feat_big_sean__mr_hudson Big Sean joins Kanye on the remix of "Paranoid" and puts down a typically crazy verse. He is one of the wittiest lyrically of the whole new school coming up. I have been trying to stay away from the Kanye news recently but I had to post this up because the young guys need their exposure too. In case your late on Big Sean here are some past posts to catch you up real quick. Emilio Sparks Talks with Big Sean Big Sean - "Billionaires"
This article has been in the process of being written for a long time and I am glad to finally get to it. With the buildup and release of Kanye West's latest album, 808's & Heartbreak, I have read many things both critical and in support of the new direction he has decided to take with his career. I have frequently referred to this new style as "the formula", meaning he uses most or all of these things on every song: more singing than rapping, a raw piano or synthesizer loop, deep heavy bass and of course the ever-present AutoTune on his voice. Some hardcore fans consider this huge straying from his past work as a slap in the face, while others see it as an artist's progression and prerogative to explore. Although both of those arguments hold some truth, I think all we have to do is look at Kanye's own words for answers. Click the break to read more. I recently read an article where Kanye said:
"You know people sometimes don't understand great art when they first hear it, but I am very confident in it,” West told the Associated Press. “Whether it sells as much as the last one, or way more, I feel like I am just successful in doing something I felt really good about."This quote gives the impression that Kanye is just evolving and doing what he wants from his heart. Kanye has been through a rough period recently with the called off engagement and death of his mother, and we have all seen his very public responses to this by acting out a lot recently. 808's & Heartbreak is a project that was his artistic response to all of these things happening to him, this much is obvious to everyone. However, this quote also reminded me of another one I had heard recently from Common (see video at bottom) and the answer came to me in an instant. For those of you thinking it is a stab in the back I would like to refer you to Common's album Electric Circus. This album saw Common stray far from rapping and him making music over rock and electronica production. Now some critics praised EC as pushing boundaries and taking rap in new directions, but others saw it as too far off base from what they were used to hearing. Hmm, does this sound like any other album to everyone? Now, I am sure that 808's will sell more than Electric Circus did due to Kanye's super stardom right now but I think the albums will be pretty similar. Electric Circus' most important role was it also served as the jump off point for Common to come back to rhyming and create one of his best albums, Be. Just as Common did, Kanye is making an album of where he is at at this time and people might not get it, but I am convinced he will not leave the rap game. Instead, I am sure this album, successful or not, will serve as a starting point for Kanye to come back and attack hip-hop with a renewed passion and with more innovative ideas. So for all of you out there that might not like this album and have been turned off by Kanye I only refer you to Common's incredible album Be, because without Electric Circus that album would have never happened. A new, cool, animated Kanye video to make your Friday morning. The animation is well done and it is directed by Hype Williams so the plot is pretty cool although nothing new. "Heartless" is slowly growing on me but I just can't see myself being excited enough to buy this album and listen to it a million times until I almost know every word like every other Kanye album to date. We will see what other tracks Mr. West has planned before I'm sold on it, but there will be plenty of time for debating, the album hasn't even dropped yet!
kanye_west_-_heartless__final_version_ Ahh Kanye did it again and put out an unmastered and then mastered version of his single. I tried to stay out of it as much this time and only posted 2 versions. This is the final version, supposedly, and it sounds like it is quality. Also I am assuming and hoping that is the cover of the album, I like that graphic way better than the "Love Lockdown" deflated balloon one.
Here is the official video for "Love Lockdown" by Kanye. It seems it debuted on the Ellen DeGeneres Show which is just funny to me, Oprah must be pissed that her stranglehold on all woman kind is loosening. Haha seriously though the video is alright and I was expecting a lot more but that may have just been because I have been so hyped about it since I heard the song and I always have high expectations. Anyways here it is and be on the lookout for his new single "Heartless" to be on here as soon as it drops. Enjoy!
At T.I.'s MySpace show in L.A. Kanye comes out on stage to perform his verse on "Swagga Like Us". T.I. then gives him the stage and Kanye talks about his new album 808's & Heartbreak dropping Nov. 25th and then does "Love Lockdown". Finally he performs a new song off the album called "Heartless". Consequence gives us the exclusive footage and it is definitely dope. The only problem I have with it is Kanye raps/sings with the lyrics playing in the background, something that is definitely my biggest frustration with rap shows these days. Anyways check it out and expect that "Heartless" track to be on here in the near future. P.S. lol at the chat going on in the video embed haha.
Per Kanye's blog, he is now moving up his album 808's and Heartbreak to "November something cause I finished the album and felt like it." Damn homey you sound mad, we were all excited with the Dec. release date because that wouldve definitely been a quick turnaround for a new album for a rap star today. Anyways he also mentions "I want yall to hear it as soon as possible" so I definitely resepct that as a fan and can't wait to hear what he's got for us this time.
kanye_west-love-lockdown-final-version I hope this is the final version because I am getting sick of posting these now. Being a producer you would think Kanye would've been so meticulous about what gets released and what doesn't. Oh well. This one has the drums and voice redone and actually sounds mastered unlike the last 2 versions.
