Big SeanPosts Tagged ‘Big Sean’With just two weeks left before the drop of one of the most highly anticipated albums in the past five years (but still not Detoxlevel…wtf), Finally Famous, I feel its our job at B&B to get you all hype. While I initially thought that the material released on Finally Famous, Vol.1 (one of the better mixtapes, I feel, in recent history) was enough to be a legitimate and commercially successful album (especially compared to its successors, Volumes 2+3), I guess Sean wasn’t feelin it; but with major teasers like “Getcha Some” and “What U Doin”, I think people were gettin a little tired of the wait. Although once “My Last” and “I Do It” (which I am not the biggest fan of but whatever) hit the airwaves, Finally Famous was in full-effect; and with releases like “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay”, people can look forward to a quality product, much like the material on Volume 1. Wiz has been hitting the internet hard with mass releasing (or leaking?) material in preparation for the release of Rolling Papers (March 29th), most recently releasing his official mixtape Cabin Fever. Cabin Fever (while containing old tracks, like the title track “Cabin Fever”) is heavily experimental, both featuring artists that don’t typically fit into the Wiz Khalifa collaborative ring and producers who don’t usually fit into the laidback, “high” production style that fits Wiz’s rhymes. However, especially with “Gang Bang,” Wiz succeeds in showing that he can (every once in a while) go outside of his comfort zone and still make quality music that his fans like. Finally, Big Sean drops the first official single off of his highly anticipated debut album, Finally Famous. Big Sean lays down some solid (yet typical) lyrics on the upbeat No I.D. beat, showcasing his smooth flow that had originally caught the eye of Kanye West (all the while adding in his patented “BOI” background calls). Chris Brown adds good backing and chorus vocals that add to the upbeat feel of the track. Overall, a solid first single, and one that only adds more anticipation to the album’s release in March. It’s pretty safe to say it isn’t Friday anymore, but here is the latest installment of Ye’s series anyways. “Looking For Trouble” is the first Kanye track to feature J. Cole which is sure to make more than a few people happy. The drums on this come to life and match the energy in the sample. Cole fits perfectly into this line-up, matching and exceeding the famed arrogance of each rapper here. Big Sean pulls out the double-time flow, but points go to Pusha and J Cole for bookending this song with some truly mean verses. Download: Kanye West – “Looking For Trouble”

A couple of my favorite young rappers link up to create a visual for this collaboration.
Grab a bonus track from Sean that we missed called “I Don’t Think They Want It” below the break. I don’t understand why there are so many videos in a row but this certainly has to be a record. I’m not sure you can even call this a full video though because there is almost as much build up as there is rapping in it. The video looks well shot but as I said, it is hard to get amped up over any artist dropping one verse and that’s it. Finally Famous 3 is supposed to be dropping soon but it has been over 2 years already so I will wait until I see it before I believe it.
I was just thinking this morning that Big Sean has gotten shafted with these G.O.O.D. Friday tracks. He represented at the BET Cypher and delivered arguably the best verse, and now he does the same on “Don’t Look Down”. This song can be viewed as a prelude to the “Runaway” short film that will drop later today. The beat has a great soundtrack feel to it with its march rhythm and big texture, and the verses from Lupe, Ye, and Big are all as solid as one would expect (Dante stays on the hook for this). “Don’t Look Down” continues to demonstrate Kanye’s ever-growing love for distortion and bitcrusher filters, which might rub some the wrong way, but I believe it would probably sound great on a final, fully mixed track. After the jump, grab the download link and check out the (supposed) tracklist for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. We are moving on from one GOOD artist to the next with their own new videos although this one isn’t as heavily produced as Cudi’s joint. The video has some original aspects though with the interview and live performances all meshing together to give you an interesting perspective and also makes you question which one you should label it. I enjoy the informative aspect of it because he explains the idea behind GOOD music and it perfectly complements the theme of “Living Our Dreams”. Shout out to GWHH for helping to put this together and for the creative aspects that went into it.
More G.O.O.D. Friday goodness, this time with a roster track. Most people likely expected that these weekly leaks would result in unnecessary throwaways, but Ye’s really been batting 1000 with these. The soul sample on this one is more upbeat than “Devil In A New Dress”, and it’s definitely a feel-good song. Pusha T is a much welcomed addition to the G.O.O.D. Music family and I’m sure his The Fear Of God mixtape will be fire whenever it drops. Download: Kanye West – “G.O.O.D. Friday”

Finally Famous Vol. 3 finally hits the interwebs after months of hearing different singles off of it. Don Cannon hosts and I am all for the movement of not having anyone host your tapes. No offense to Don, but I think every music fan would be down to hear all their favorite tapes without the unnecessary drops which plague almost every big project which releases for free. Oh well, as Sam Cooke once said “it’s been a long time coming” and this one is no exception so kick your feet up and put the headphones on and take a listen to the last project to drop before his album.
