PHZ-Sicks – “SumHer Everlasting” (Prod. BKS)

PHZ-Sicks has been featured a couple times on B&B and is another DMV up and comer who has slowly been gaining more exposure on the net. This jam has a smooth summer groove that obviously compliments the subject matter and would be fit for any NYC rooftop BBQ or DMV crab feast (and however our Canadian friends enjoy their summers, we’ll just say BBQing too for the hell of it haha). The chorus sounds like a sample, although this time I actually don’t believe it is, and the song was great except for the fact I could’ve used another rapped verse at the end or at least some help with the final singing part. “SumHer Everlasting” is off of his upcoming project The Law of PHZ-Sicks which drops in September.

Wale and Best Kept Secret team up for another go-go tinged track and it is pretty good. I wouldn’t call this a banger but I am going to give it a few listens to see if it will grow on me. It’s funny to me that tracks like this are the ones that people outside the D.C. area are now calling a fresh and new sound but these are the exact type of songs that turn some of the local fans off. I usually like when a producer puts some go-go in a beat and BKS is one of the best at it. Maybe it is because I no longer live in the DMV area, but it really brings me back when I hear all that percussion. Enjoy and let me know your thoughts on the fresh vs. dated debate about go-go.

Wale wasn’t lying when he tweeted that he would be releasing a new video today a few days after he debuted his video for “Chillin”. This video is directed by the hardest working director in the game, Rik Cordero, who seems to direct almost every video these days. As he always does, Rik gives us a video that is very real, no smoke machines and effects with him, just him filming a story in a home. I actually like these types of videos better that “Chillin”, I figure I am probably one of the only people but when a video tells a story it takes on a whole new meaning for me. We finally get the video for “Chillin” but still no Back to the Feature mixtape although it is rumored to be coming out next week. I’m really not feeling this video, I’m not really sure what the overall point or theme is and Lady Gaga seems kind of lost like they weren’t sure what do with her in the video. Honestly, the best part for me was seeing the sneakers in the background, the Bape hoody he wears and all the other fresh gear in the video and I also like seeing him rep DC though with shots of Cardozo HS, Ben’s Chili Bowl and more. Anyways, catch Wale, XO, and Tabi Bonney tonight at the 9:30 club in DC tonight, that show should be crazy. Check below the break for a bonus track also released today called “Family Affair”.
