December 7

This is a pleasant surprise to have in your inbox when you wake up in the morning. I knew this joint was coming out but I have been all over the place the past several days and I completely forgot about it. No Genre is the mixtape that features “BeastMode” and a bunch of other jams with producers JR Rotem, Jim Jonsin, Quincy Jones and several others all contributing to the project. Check out the tracklist and download link below the break.

B.o.B – “Don’t Let Me Fall” (Video)

What a cool ass concept that wasn’t too hard to creats but still makes it look like the video had great special effects.

B.o.B reflects on his rise to the top in the Ethan Lader-directed video for “Don’t Let Me Fall,” the fourth single from his debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which combines old footage with newly shot scenes. Bobby Simmons strums his guitar in the gravity-defying clip, shot on the sidewalks of downtown Denver and at Colorado’s open-air Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Get your back up off the wall below.

This also happens to be one of my favorite tracks from the album.

B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams – “Airplanes” (Video)

Damn, I really wish this was “Airplanes Pt. 2″ with Eminem but the song itself is still a good one. The video focuses on some shots of B.o.B with massive screens around him displaying all sorts of colors and images. It actually reminded a lot of the screen behind Massive Attack when they play their live show, which I recently had the opportunity to see for myself, and force you to watch it instead of the band. Hayley Williams and someone who looked like Jim Jonsin to me make appearances in the video although the main focus is Bobby Ray and his rapping. B.o.B’s album The Adventures of Bobby Ray is in stores now and I reiterate that it is one of my favorite albums to be released in a long time.

And to end off this Saturday, here’s one of the most anticipated tracks off of The Adventures Of Bobby Ray. It’s criminal how little collabo work Lupe has done outside of the (former) 1st & 15th team. I think it might just be because rappers are too scared of being outshined by him on their own tracks haha. B.o.B doesn’t let that happen though and really comes through on the singing front and the rapping front. The hook he laid down is immediately infectious, making his singing the highlight of the track. His verse, while not surpassing the metaphor and simile riddled web that is Lupe’s verse, was still dope. This will probably go down in a day anyways, so hit up the download link below while you can.

AIRPLANES

If I hadn’t seen the tracklist for this album I would’ve been extremely shocked to see this pairing but finally we get to hear one of their tracks together. Personally I would’ve loved to hear “Airplanes II” with Eminem featured on the song but this will have to do for the moment. Being a B.o.B fan for several years I have to say that this isn’t my favorite from him or this album although I understand completely the attempt to to blur genres as he frequently does and expose his music to a new audience. Sorry there is no download for this song yet but you can always buy the album on April 27th to get it for yourself.

b.o.b the adventures of bobby ray

Everyone seems to be calling this the first single off of The Great Adventures of Bobby Ray but kind of see that as hard to believe since “Nothing on You” has been out and has already made a radio push. Bobby goes in over a piano loop and sings the chorus himself this time to show off some even more musical talent. The guy knows how to blend his melodic, indie sounding rock with his unique raps and the album should demonstrate these abilities from the songs I have already heard on the tracklist. Speaking of that, this is the artwork above and you can get the tracklist and download/stream link below the break.

Lupe, Wale, B.o.B, Diggy, Blu, J. Cole And More Are….All City Chess Club

lupe-tweet2 all city chess club

I would have never in a million years believed this if it was just a rumour, but it seems like these guys actually got some work in with each other! Ash Roth, Bobby Ray, The Cool Kids, Charles Hamilton, Blu, Diggy, J. Cole, Wale and Lupe are collectively known as All City Chess Club.  According to Sean at the lupend blog, it’s unsure whether this will be part of a full project or a single song/remix. Seeing as how busy alot of these dudes are right now, I’m leaning much more to the one track scenario, but either way this is a checkmate (hey it was either that or a revenge of the nerds joke).

This one apparently was leaked unfinished about a year ago, and now we get the final version which will appear as a bonus track on The Adventures Of Bobby Ray.  Even as a bonus track, “Satellite” shouldn’t be on this album. Granted, it’s not awful, but it it’s not good either. ”Satellite” sounds like it’s trying too hard to work a theme. From the general flakiness of the song to the feigned accent near the end, this track should have stayed on the cutting room floor. April 27 is the album release date, so don’t forget.

Keeping it Southern, B.o.B gets Sir Luscious Left Foot to jump on the official remix of his biggest song to date.  Although he’ll probably never reach the same legend status as 3 stacks, Big Boi is showing more and more that he can hold his own just fine. His verse on this remix is pretty much impeccable, and I know that’s seems very fanboyish to say but it’s true. Coming from someone who couldn’t stand Speakerboxxx, I never thought Big Boi would be able to win me over as much as he has. I just hope that his album does finally drop this year and get off of its Detox status.

Bobby goes in on Drake’s “Over” and drops something quick. Save for the crappy sound quality on the hook and the fact that he doesn’t have the low register in his voice to sing it well, it’s pretty good. B.o.B focusses on the fakes in his life now that he’s well-known and does a nice job of going hard with the content. It’s not really worth a download, but I’ll throw up the link anyways in case anyone is interested.
