Nottz & Asher Roth ft. Colin Munroe – “My Neighbor” (Video)

I am taking the really, really, really late pass on this one but I still think it should be seen on B&B. For the past several weeks I have been mostly MIA except for a few posts and this is part of that catch up game. CMJ was in town last week and I had the pleasure of seeing Asher perform this with Nottz in a small venue setting (Sullivan Hall in NYC) and it was dope. The two vibed together well and you always like seeing other artists support lesser known ones, even if they are playing in a small venue. Check out the video which has some help from one of my favorite R&B artists on hip-hop hooks at the moment and laugh at the child impersonation the two do on the playground. If you like what you hear you can grab their collaboration album titled Rawth which dropped on Tuesday.

Christian Rich ft. Colin Munroe – “Say My Name”

It has been a minute since we heard from the group Christian Rich but they team up with everyone’s favorite indie singer for the hook to make this smooth jam.

This Colin Munroe-assisted electro-pop track was sitting in my inbox this morning, and it’s a jam. Got me out of my bed doing a classy two-step. The hook is infectious as hell. “Say My Name” is most likely gonna be on a future project of one of theirs called Arcade. Admit you wanna hear what that joint sounds like just based off the album name alone.

The quote and song are all courtesy of Modi at DCtoBC.

Colin Munroe – “Bulletproof Monster” (La Roux x Nicki Minaj Revox)

I have been M.I.A. for a good week and then some, but this is how it’s going to be for the next month unfortunately. Taking advantage of the little time off I get nowadays, here’s something a bit more curious off of Colin’s upcoming Revox Suite. Even if you’re not big on Colin Munroe’s revoxes, I have a feeling not many people are going to object to a “Bulletproof” and “Monster” remix by Mr. Munroe. Read what he has to say and stream/download the track after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Colin Munroe – “One” (Sky Ferreira Revox)

For those who listened to Colin’s The Unsung Hero tape, you might recall a revox of Bob Dylan’s “Who Killed Davey Moore?” These revoxes are not really remixes and not really covers, but rather original songs that are kept more or less intact with the addition of more vocals. And if you know Colin, you know how he likes experimenting with vocals. His usual tricks of the trade work well on Sky Ferreira’s “One”, which is electropop to begin with. Sky Ferreira, by the way, is a young songstress of Portuguese-American descent (a winning combination) out of LA. She’s bigger in Europe than she is in North American currently, but she has yet to release her debut album so that might change in time. “One” (Revox) will be off of The Revox Suite.

Even though Colin Munroe hasn’t put out much in terms of singles for a good minute now, he has been keeping himself fairly busy by becoming the go-to hook guy. Working with everyone from Slum Village to Pill, Colin is playing it smart by getting his name to circulate within the hip-hop community before dropping a debut album. I speak for many people however when I say it’s about time we heard a new full track from this guy, even if it’s just a cover. Colin sticks to his guns on this by bringing elements that he’s known for to this track, such as the pitch-raised “back up” vocals that appear from time to time. This looks like a floater track to me, so enjoy it for what it is. Via 1LoveTO.

Slum Village ft. Colin Munroe – “Faster” (Video)

Hearing “Faster” is bittersweet. The song is the first single from the upcoming album, Villa Manifesto, which I can’t wait to hear, but Slum Village has also announced it will be their last. The video for “Faster” has an interesting perspective and twist on relationships which had me thinking about the ending, a rarity for most videos. This also isn’t the end of the story and instead of making videos together the group has resolved to just make it one long movie. Although I enjoy the interesting aspects of the story I still wish SV, which has had several influential members and associated acts, could give us one last glimpse of this seminal Detroit hip-hop group.

Donnis ft. Colin Munroe – “Lightning”

Donnis is someone who I haven’t understood where his hype has been coming from the past 8 months or so. I have listened to several of his songs and none of them do it for me although it isn’t as if I hate them, instead I am indifferent towards them. Someone recently told me to give him another listen so I started with this song with another artist who has gotten plenty of play on my iTunes in Colin Munroe. Colin’s chorus sound a little like “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears to me and I think it has to do with the way in which they hold certain notes in the chorus. If you like this song you can grab the tape below the break as well as this individual track.

EDIT: Listened to a few tracks and the tape is still generic to me so I’m going to pass up on the rest.

Pill – “No Time For Sleep” feat. Colin Munroe (Prod. By Colin Munroe)

Speaking of Mr. Munroe, here’s the second track to feature him to drop today, and this comes courtesy of ATLien Pill and his new mixtape, 1140: The Overdose. Corey pretty much said it all: Colin can really deliver a mean hook and he needs to drop that debut album soon, especially since he’s really carved out a sound of his own. A lot of noise has been made about Pill, but we’ve never featured him on B&B. Personally, I can see myself getting into a track of his here and there, but he’s not someone who I’d listen to frequently. Yeah, he gets points for authenticity and credibility, but Pill isn’t doing anything special as a rapper as of yet. “No Time For Sleep”, however, is a killer joint. Pill shines through on the lyrical tip, and the Colin Munroe hook and production make “No Time For Sleep” the best track I’ve heard all week. Download/stream after the jump.

Slum Village ft. Colin Munroe – “Faster”

Slum Village release this single from their upcoming album Villa Manifesto which drops July 29th. Colin hasn’t been on the site for a little bit of time and I’m hoping his time away from features and mixtapes means he is working on his album. I don’t know what it is with him but he provides great feature hooks and almost every song he has been on I have liked. It is also awesome to hear some new Slum Village who had recently reconnected with Baatin to record this album right before he passed away. This album will definitely be copped and I can’t wait to hear more tracks from it soon.

Kidz In The Hall ft. Colin Munroe – “Take Over The World”

This song is exactly what you need before you head into the weekend. Colin provides a great sing along chorus with Naledge spitting the verses and Double O gets some help on the production from none other than Just Blaze. The beat itself is smooth with a nice mix of piano, strings and horns. I didn’t think I would be anticipating this album as much as I am but the past couple songs have piqued my interest and I should be copping it when it drops on Tuesday.
