Kno steps up his visual game with “Le Petit Morte” by conceptualizing an old school western plot shot in black and white. The song does the video justice by creating a somber, serious mood and a story involving Kno and a girl that takes an interesting twist at the end. As a bonus, I am adding the “Graveyard” video below the break and although it doesn’t possess quite the storyline of this one, he still spits some great lines in it. Death is Silent is available now and you can add it to your collection by downloading from Amazon here.
Kno makes some of the chillest beats and the CunninLynguists are a seriously underrated group that even I need to listen to more. Thee Tom Hardy has been mentioned to me but I haven’t checked out the 9th Wonder signee’s music yet and I like what hear from him on this track. The production reminds me a little of “Don’t Leave When Winter Comes” ft. Slug and that isn’t a bad thing because that song is one of the few that helped get me into them in the first place. Keep your eyes peeled because Kno is releasing his debut album called Death Is Silent on October 12th and there are sure to be more singles to follow this one.
CunninLynguists hit us with their latest video from their album Strange Journey: Volume 2 and it centers on a drug that isn’t the focus of many hip-hop tracks anymore. The song itself is interesting with the production from J-Zone which features a hard, distorted guitar loop and repeats cocaine statistics during the chorus. I couldn’t figure out the point of the guy in the bear suit but the rest of the video is pretty funny and has an interesting story to tell despite the purposeful cheesiness of it all. There is a rumor that they will be releasing another album at some point this year but I do not know the name or when it will drop but that should reveal itself as we get closer to it.
First we gave you the Jams but now it is time for the hip-hop gems. I said in the previous post that the past couple days I came up with the idea to post a few mixes that sum up my year in music. These joints are all songs that were some of the more solid underground songs that I listened to this past year and deserve more shine. A number of my favorite new artists are on there and this is another mix that is pretty damn complete. Look out for our final installment of rock songs which should drop over the next couple days. Link and tracklist are below the break and everyone have a happy and safe New Year!
I’m playing some more catch up with this song which was released yesterday and features some underrated NYC artists who I honestly don’t listen to enough. The beat for this song is very interesting to me, the loop is cut so it seems to always be pushing the beat forward which was awkward at first but then I grew to like it. Check out “Imperial” which we posted the other day too, both have great verses and beats. Grab Strange Journey: Vol. 2 at a store near you now.
Damn I am so sorry I slept on this group for so long, just about everything I listen to I like and end up listening to almost all of it. This time they get Freddie Gibbs, whose name I have seen out there but I haven’t listened to any of his music yet, to join in on this newest single from their upcoming album Strange Journey Vol. 2. The song features a cool organ beat with a group of people singing the chorus which got stuck in my head for a little bit after. The organ really gives this song a unique feel and props to Kno from the CunninLynguists on the production.
Cunninlynguists are a group that come highly recommended by several trusted friends and I wish I had put more of their songs up. I have posted a few of their tracks (“Don’t Leave When Winter Comes”, “Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)”) and all have been solid. I think I am going to have to go back and get their album Strange Journey Vol. 1 and probably will also get this upcoming album Strange Journey Vol. 2 which this song is from. You can get the new album November 3rd, the day before the best day of the year (my birthday) haha! Check below for the download, tracklist and artwork from the new album.
CunninLynguists are a group that I don’t post nearly enough on B&B so today I plan to change that. This is their video for “Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)” and it is about exactly what you think it would be about haha. All the weed heads out there will certainly light one up for this song and if you’re feeling it you need to get the album Strange Journey which is available now. Also check out their other track that I managed to post “Don’t Leave When Winter Comes” which is a great song and check back for more from them, I plan on staying up on them this time.
A friend back in Maryland put me onto the Cunninlynguists a few years ago and I thought they were dope then but they have only gotten better. I have kept listening to them and they have kept progressing and this song is the best I have heard to date. The beat, produced by Kno, is pretty sad and mellow with a slow plucked guitar loop and sad sung chorus but there are a lot of great lyrics. This is off their album being released on Tuesday called Strange Journey Vol. 1, go get it.
