I was impressed with this official remix off of Chip Tha Ripper’s mixtape The Cleveland Show. Blended Babies are producers from Chicago who I had never heard before but they nicely remix this song while creatively blending some different production styles. The song has a storytelling and kickin’ it vibe and the producers utilize some nice samples, a distorted guitar riff, and even switch it up to some acoustic guitar for some of Sean’s verse at the end. Chip is someone I find a song I like every few months but have never gave his tapes a lot of rotation and I think I should go back and give this one a fair shot.
Wiz’s mixtape Deal or No Deal drops tomorrow so it is only right that I fit in one more song before he releases the final version. Thank God for this song too, I have been looking all day for some more things to post but we are coming to an extremely dry period for music. With all the holidays coming up, the music business will be grinding to a halt so I have been scrounging for things to put up here the past couple weeks. To be honest, this year’s busy period never really happened for me or on the blogs, or it happened but I was uninterested in most of the acts haha. I am hoping it is more of it being an odd year opposed to music taking a downturn in quality.

Here is Curren$y’s new track off of the re-release of This Ain’t No Mixtape which is supposedly coming soon. I don’t bump all of Curren$y’s music but I was glad to hear that tape is coming back out and with some new tracks. When it dropped, I listened to that tape a good amount and I can’t wait to see what else he has added to it. “Jet’s Over Everything” has a cool beat too with several layers and was produced by Dame Grease. Be on the lookout for this mixtape album.

Well I didn’t think I would ever hear someone rhyme over Beck’s song “New Pollution” but color me wrong and impressed. Curren$y definitely surprised me with this song but he does his thing over the beat and chorus to this Beck track. This is someone I have had a hard time classifying because I like most of his songs but have never really bumped any of them or put them in my playlists. He frequently rhymes (and tweets) about weed, which is cool for a minute but gets redundant with me after hearing it about 20 times. What about you all?

I have been waiting for this mixtape for sometime and we get it pretty soon after they released the first single for it. There hasn’t been enough time for me to go through it yet but these are two artists that I have respected for a while and have not posted enough of either since we have been around (July was our birthday too, so happy one year b-day to us haha). It is great to see two young, dope, independent (since Wiz has officially left Warner Music) come together to make a mixtape that has a ton of hype on the web, probably more than if the two had done individual tapes. The cover art and the title track pay homage to the two spitters drug of choice and I’m sure will get a lot of people excited to give this album a listen, although that doesn’t get me to listen to music anymore I will say the cover art is original and caught my eye for sure. Get the tracklist and download link after the break!
Curren$y really doesn’t do much wrong in his career, almost every song he releases is hot and he keeps the jams coming out at a ridiculous pace. This beat is a Pharrell song that he is rapping over but I never heard it before and it is crazy an interesting violin/string and congas loop. He also has a great flow for this song where he is switching it up some and really makes it sound effortless. Shouts to Modi at DCtoBC, I’m so glad that dude is back up on his blog game.

Here are two cuts off of their new mixtape How Fly. “The Checkpoint” leak video was done by Wiz himself and it is anime, which isn’t really my thing but it gives you something more to entertain you haha. The other song, “Car Service”, was released first and is good too but I am liking “Checkpoint” more. Both songs have great beats though and this mixtape is just another one to look forward to over this hot summer. Page break…..songs….download…..you know what to do.
Mistah F.A.B. is by far my favorite artist out of the Bay and Curren$y has been creeping up my list for some time now so I was excited to see the two collabed together on a track. The song is decent, it doesn’t sound like it is mixed and mastered yet but I also expected to hear more from these two who are both known for their lyrics. There are some dope metaphors and punchlines from the two but I was expecting more. I think a lot of it had to do with the type of song they were trying to make which focuses on them boasting about jetsetting all over the world and their wardrobe instead of putting together a lyrical masterpiece haha. I would like to hear these two team up again for sure though, I think they could make some good music together.
Curren$y has just been spewing out music recently with this song, “Star Power” and his featured verse on “Word Play” and all have been good tracks for different reasons. I still can’t get over his verse is “Word Play” though, he goes in and rides that beat flawlessly. All these songs are presumably to build up hype for his cleverly titled album This Ain’t No Mixtape dropping April 21st. “Fuck being next, my main concern is being current,” that is advice that a lot of rappers should take notice of and listen to what he is saying to in this song.

This song is awesome. The sample used to make the beat is the music that plays when you get a star in Mario Bros. Curren$y was down at SXSW this week as the end of the tape indicates, and he was all over the place with appearances and there are a few videos of his performances. Don’t forget his mixtape dropping 4/21 called This Ain’t No Mixtape, I’m not sure if this is on it but either way the tape should be a great download. I still can’t get over the beat, I have heard quite a few beats that incorporate Nintendo sounds and theme music but this one is one of the most original in my opinion because he uses a specific sound, I just wish the song was longer.
