Oddisee Talks About the DMV Scene
November 2

This is a topic of conversation for anyone who is from the area and also something I have attempted to explain outsiders but I think Oddisee breaks it down better than I ever did. Being in the middle of the North and South gives the area a unique sound and I’m glad artists are recognizing their ability to create something different for ourselves in the DMV. Below the break check him and YU talking about their single for Diamond District called “I Mean Business”. Shouts to NodFactor for the interview, now go cop that album.

Darren Hanible Interview for Bliss Mixtape (Video)
October 22

Well it has been a day since Darren dropped Bliss and now he gives us a video interview for the reasoning behind the tape. It is all Daft Punk samples so I wanted to understand why he chose that group in particular and how long he had been a fan. Click the link above if you already don’t have the mixtape, I really think it could be a breakout for Darren and it also has some great songs that can be played at a party/club. This pretty much wraps up our Bliss and gain a deeper perspective by watching the video.

As you all know Mayer Hawthorne’s A Strange Arrangement is one of my favorite albums right now and possibly of the year. He is currently on a nation wide tour selling out everywhere and recently caught up with Ruby Hornet for a great interview letting you know where he, Buff1 and 14kt have come from. You also get to hear some of the songs throughout which should further solidify your want/need to go buy this album. In case you haven’t heard, check out our review of it here.

Hahaha this had me laughing because of the whole Kanye situation that went down at the VMA’s the other night, sometimes you just have to take a step back and have a just enjoy the absurdity of it all. The Apple Juice Kid hit me up with this classic mash up for everyone to groove to and laugh at the situation. As for Kanye, he apologized last night on Leno and seemed contrite for his actions, it might be a little too late for some people but there really isn’t much else he can do now. I’m sure he is sorry on some level but he also took down the first apology he posted on his blog and added a new one equating his feeling like Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents. I have wasted enough time talking about this crap though so I’m going to stop and you can peep the video and get the song below the break.

S-Preme Interview With GWHH (Video)

Here is a video interview from one of my favorite new artists, S-Preme, brought to you by the good people at GWHH. His metaphors are some of the best I have heard and sometimes take me a few listens to even get what he is saying. We were lucky enough to have him grace our mixtape with a track too and I regret not being able to release it as a single so I am putting it below the break along with a link to the tape. The song is called “Snakes in the Grass” and is a dope track that showcases his ability to go in with the metaphors while switching up flows with ease. Everyone also wish S-Preme a happy birthday and I would just like to go on record that I would beat him in Jeopardy lol.

Nardwuar Interviews Nas
August 27

Nardwuar is insane. How the hell is anyone capable of knowing so much about his/her interviewees? Regardless, he conducts yet another crazy interview, this time with Nas at the Vancouver stop of the Rock The Bells tour. Nas was one of the first handful of artists that got me into hip-hop and he still remains as one of my favorite rappers of all time, so this interview was a much for me to watch. You can tell Nas is not an easy person to impress, but Nardwuar (a product of Canada, I might add) still manages to trip him out with his usual bag of presents. Spotted at RR.

Asher Roth Interview w/ HHC UK + 10 Minute Freestyle

Out of the entire “Class of ‘09″ (being Asher, Charles Hamilton, Mickey Factz, and the like), I feel that Asher Roth best encapsulates an authentic rapper. He stays true to himself, and because of this authenticity, Asher stays true to what being a hip-hop artist is all about. If you listen to tracks like his “A Milli” freestyle, “The Reading”, and “Sour Patch Kids”, it becomes evident that he is more than just a fun-time college party rapper, yet without ever sounding overly preachy. Asher does a great job with the interview by communicating his points and expressing himself clearly, and you really gain an appreciation for what he has to say. Granted, he still has a way to go in his development into a stronger rapper (”Asleep In The Bread Aisle” did in general disappoint me), but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on his progress. After the jump, see his 10 minute freestyle. Spotted at Nah Right.
