MIA continues to gain more exposure for her music and her attacks on various “haters” and now she combines the two for this song. In her latest dust up with the media MIA is claiming that her recent interview in the New York Times magazine misconstrued some of her statements so as a response she is releasing this song. I haven’t read the interview but plan to do it although my first reaction is to think that MIA goes on these personal attacks a little too much for me to believe that she is completely in the right. The song itself isn’t my favorite MIA track although the sung chorus did grow on me and had me liking it by the end. Grab the track below and you can also start visiting her NEET Recordings blog if you want to see the biggest audio player in blog history. Download: M.I.A. – “Haters”
Shad has risen the ranks of being one of my favorite rappers and the London, Ontario native just released his new one called T.S.O.L. yesterday. I haven’t made my way through the whole album yet but the first few songs and the single “Yaa I Get It” have all been good listens and it seems like he has picked up right where he left off with The Old Prince. We also got the audio for his recent interview with DJ Hyphen which he breaks down his inspiration for the album and specifically the single “Yaa I Get It” and talks about some upcoming shows too. There is some debate when the album will physically release in the U.S. and on iTunes but in the meantime you can grab it for pre-order at Maple Music and Amazon (for a lot more and shipping later) now. If you can’t wait for it to ship you can drop over to Spinner and stream the album for free now and get Shad’s breakdown of each song with the interview below the break. Snoop continues his take over of everything for the More Malice album. This is Snoop and Nardwuar’s 5th interview over 10 years and as always Nardwuar brings an arsenal of oddities to blow away his interviewees. I rave every time about the knowledge and studying his does on his subjects before the interview and it truly is staggering that he almost always blows them away with some obscure item he has obtained. You can see the rapport the two have also and I like that Snoop appreciates Nardwuar’s musical knowledge and tolerates the in your face approach because I have seen other artists be put off by it. More Malice is available now. This is a topic of conversation for anyone who is from the area and also something I have attempted to explain outsiders but I think Oddisee breaks it down better than I ever did. Being in the middle of the North and South gives the area a unique sound and I’m glad artists are recognizing their ability to create something different for ourselves in the DMV. Below the break check him and YU talking about their single for Diamond District called “I Mean Business”. Shouts to NodFactor for the interview, now go cop that album. Well it has been a day since Darren dropped Bliss and now he gives us a video interview for the reasoning behind the tape. It is all Daft Punk samples so I wanted to understand why he chose that group in particular and how long he had been a fan. Click the link above if you already don’t have the mixtape, I really think it could be a breakout for Darren and it also has some great songs that can be played at a party/club. This pretty much wraps up our Bliss and gain a deeper perspective by watching the video. As you all know Mayer Hawthorne’s A Strange Arrangement is one of my favorite albums right now and possibly of the year. He is currently on a nation wide tour selling out everywhere and recently caught up with Ruby Hornet for a great interview letting you know where he, Buff1 and 14kt have come from. You also get to hear some of the songs throughout which should further solidify your want/need to go buy this album. In case you haven’t heard, check out our review of it here. Hahaha this had me laughing because of the whole Kanye situation that went down at the VMA’s the other night, sometimes you just have to take a step back and have a just enjoy the absurdity of it all. The Apple Juice Kid hit me up with this classic mash up for everyone to groove to and laugh at the situation. As for Kanye, he apologized last night on Leno and seemed contrite for his actions, it might be a little too late for some people but there really isn’t much else he can do now. I’m sure he is sorry on some level but he also took down the first apology he posted on his blog and added a new one equating his feeling like Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents. I have wasted enough time talking about this crap though so I’m going to stop and you can peep the video and get the song below the break.
