This joint is great, hands down better than the original song or the original album, although that isn’t saying much. “Thinking Out Loud” is what rap should be about, just someone spitting real talk over a beat. Mickey doesn’t just spit though, he lays down almost 7 minutes of mayhem. He also gets really into the lyrics and sounds very emotional which also makes them more powerful and gives the lyrics more meaning. I like this song but because of how intense it is it isn’t something I would bump all the time but it is still agreat record, especially if you’re trying to switch things up in your rotation. It must be our lucky day, Fake Shore Drive drops an unreleased Kanye song from way back in the day on everybody and it is great to hear Kanye’s rapping again. You know this is from way back when they are rapping about Randy Moss being on the Vikings haha, that seems like forever ago (forever being 2004). The other two guys are from out of Chi-town too and spit some good verses also. Kanye did not do the beat although there is a sampled sped up chorus so it would be easy to think he did. I refuse to think this is the official video for this song. Jay just did a video using the same typographic typing (words and letters used to make pictures) to make portraits of himself and B.I.G. in “Brooklyn Go Hard”. This video is the biggest hack job in recent memory if it turns out to be the official video, and also what the hell with the typographic typing just stopping with a picture of Kanye? Entertain me picture making words! Click the break to see Jay-Z’s “Brooklyn Go Hard” video that is the exact same. Big Sean joins Kanye on the remix of “Paranoid” and puts down a typically crazy verse. He is one of the wittiest lyrically of the whole new school coming up. I have been trying to stay away from the Kanye news recently but I had to post this up because the young guys need their exposure too. In case your late on Big Sean here are some past posts to catch you up real quick. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. N.A.S.A. is a group of musicians who perform a bunch of different styles of music but it is centered around these 2 DJs, Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon (thank you MySpace). They must be well respected because each song seems to have big name artists across lots of genres. If you click the break there is a bonus video of N.A.S.A.’s song “Money” ft. David Byrne, one of my favorite musicians, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge & Z-Trip. Shepard Fairey, the guy behind the design for the Obama poster and Obey, also helped with the video. Straight from the boogie down Bronx, Cause is someone I have been following for a little over a year and is now starting to spark some buzz around the New York City area. So when I got my hands on his new “Love Lockdown” remix I had to finally switch up the Artist of the Week. He is slick with the lyrics and flow and makes quality music. I hope he hits us up with more tracks in the future to expose you to how nasty he can spit. If you haven’t heard of him here is a quick bio to catch you up.
Amen, that is something we all need! Stephen finally does it. Last week he humbled Kanye West by making his album rise above Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreaks. Stephen Colbert’s Christmas Special soundtrack was ranked at #2 while Kanye slipped to #4. Colbert really gets him with those pictures of them hanging out and also talks about the Twitter message, or should I say he raps about it. He even got Al Roker to say he was “the voice of this generation of this decade”, priceless.
