We did a small post on Ade a little while back on B&B, talking mostly about his much anticipated tape The Letterman, but, since its release, “Toast 2 Life” has taken off, affirming my belief that the tape was well worth the wait. Set back on a great beat, something you may hear from a producer like 9th Wonder, Ade jumps around on the track from the drug game to breaking out and finding success in the game, making it seem more like a freestyle that he just decided to lay down. He’s got a crazy flow and delivery that certainly does the DMV proud, joining Tabi, Wale, and Raheem DeVaughn as one of the better artists from the District. Kevin Ross lays down some dope backing vocals that give the song a smooth feel to it. The track has been hitting the airwaves hard, with 93.9 WKYS (in DC) having it on heavy circulation throughout the day. This track (and Ade’s talent in general) is just one of many signs that the DMV is comin’ at the game strong.
The new female James Brown, aka Janelle Monae, lit up the stage for Letterman with her new song “Tightrope” without Big Boi providing his verse. She tears it up with the dancing and the shouting to the band and crowd as if she is having a conversation with them while also performing and she also has a phenomenal voice. I was a little pissed that Letterman immediately starts asking for Diddy when she is done but at least Diddy has enough sense when he comes out to give his artist the appropriate props by bowing to that performance. Click the link above and check out the video if you haven’t already because it could be my favorite of the year to date.
I was sleeping on this new Kid Cudi album until this past weekend and this video is what turned me on to it. I’m sure everyone out there thinks it is a sin that I have been sleeping on this but whatever, I am caught up now. This song and everything that has leaked so far is incredible and this album will probably be my favorite major label release of the year. He is another artist blurring genre lines even further and has created such a unique sound for himself and more artists should take note. Cop Man on the Moon: The End of Day tomorrow!
It seems Dave is a little angry that he got snubbed by McCain! He is relentless about how ridiculous he thinks it is that a presidential candidate is “suspending his campaign” to deal with the current economic issues. He also goes in on Palin and questions her credentials to be VP. Wow, Obama take note, if you make plans to appear on a late night talk show DO NOT SKIP IT.
