Lyriciss – “Hot Music” (Video)

Lyriciss is back with some visuals off of his latest single “Hot Music”. The sample is from the British trio  SoHo of the song of the same name and Lyriciss kills it. The beat is very jazzy and he goes in with a very fast flow to accompany it. The video is shot by part of Tabi Bonney’s video company Cool Kids Forever and features simple shots of Lyriciss and others providing insight to the beat and also just having a good time. No word on the placement of the songs but keep your fingers corssed for a new project in the future.

Lyriciss released this song last year and he has decided to make it his lead single off of his next mixtape. “Bright Nights” has a smooth beat and Lyriciss narrates the story of the main character throughout the video. There is no date or mixtape title yet but with a video already shot I hope it means we are on the fast track to getting it here at B&B. Check for him in the NYC area this summer since he lives here now and has already performed a couple of times and I’m sure he will also make it back to the DMV.

Lyriciss hits us with a new joint where he goes in over this J.Cole record.

And we’re back with another one, people…now being the internet-savvy young artist I am (seriously, in 2010, if you’re not active online, you’re kinda 3 steps behind society), I already saw the blogs sayin that they didn’t really want any rappers going in over J. Cole’s “Who Dat” instrumental. And who can blame them? J. Cole did a hell of a job with that track, especially for a single to be in THAT lane. But…I couldn’t help it. Not to mention, the homie Theo Martins adding fuel to the fire by dropping a freestyle over the track while I was heavy on the search and couldn’t find it. Blame him! I kid…but nonetheless, here we go, people…my own spin on “Who Dat”. Enjoy the track!

Get the download and a video of him performing at Public Assembly in BK last Thursday below the break. I was fortunate enough to catch the set and he had the BK crowd nodding their heads despite his DMV roots which is a feat considering I have seen how brutal NYC crowds can be at times.

I’m still playing catch up with this new Lyriciss track from last week’s technical difficulties and being away this weekend.

As we prepare for the weekend, I figure we’d go in properly. Anyone that knows me knows how much I’ve loved hip-hop my whole life, so I’d grow up hearing Soho’s “Hot Music” blasted on a regular basis. I loved it even more when k-Os brought it back with his song over the track, “Superstarr Pt. Zero”. You know…before BET stopped playing anything that wasn’t part of the Top 10 playlist. So out of the love for this track, I decided to drop a few bars over it. Hope y’all enjoy it…feel free to break out your flattened cardboard boxes and spray some graffiti on any unmarked walls and trains. Special shout out to DC’s own DJ Alizay for spinning Soho’s “Hot Music” at almost every party he’s at, basically subconsciously pushing me to do this track!
Lyriciss brings a lightning fast flow at times over this smooth, jazz inspired beat and kills it. If you are in the NYC area check for him more often because the DMV native just relocated to Brooklyn so we should be getting to see more of him.

j-scrilla just chillin

J-Scrilla is a producer/rapper from the DMV who released his album Culture of Honor last year and decides to give us a free gem off of it. The album is a who’s who of the DMV scene and the songs are predominantly feature based just like this one. We also featured “No Love” on B&B if you’re feeling this you should get an idea of his style and the album. Culture of Honor is available at all the places listed on the flyer above so support the DMV movement. Grab the stream from the first download link below.

“I think their diggin what I’m duggin, hacksaw”

All you people who used to watch the WWF at way back when you were little should be loving that reference, I know it isn’t the first time it has been used but it is one of the many lines that stood out to me. I am liking the approach the two DMV rappers take of trading bars back and forth the whole song and it gives it a different feel then most feature songs. In fact, Lyriciss may have as many bars as Pro and it’s dope to see artists allowing each other to shine instead of the typical crab in a barrel mentality that has prevailed the DMV scene for a while now. Songs like this and the new generation coming up give me hope that it will be further demolished in the future.

A whole gang of local artists released material this past weekend and here is one of Lyriciss’ joints off of his mixtape The Practice.

And we’re back again, people. Hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day/All Star Weekend, whether you was bunning up with the significant other or spending all your money on thirsty groupies in Dallas! For those who downloaded my mixtape, The Practice, you’re probably familiar with this track, but if not, this is a song chronicling the struggle of the young black male in America, and even more specifically in this case, the DMV, accompanied by lyrical heavyweights, K-Beta (Inner Loop Records) & Muggsy Malone (Fontana/Universal Records). This track will also be featured on Muggsy Malone’s upcoming The Preview & TPK: The Parkway Kid mixtapes.

Although it isn’t new per se, I thought it would post anyways since I feel like I didn’t highlight this tape enough when it came out and because of the message in the song. Grab the link below the break.

One of the hotter up and comers from the DMV dropped his new mixtape The Practice at midnight and it is now available for download thanks to DJBooth. Lyriciss gets a slew of DMV artists that I also listen to to help out on some of the songs like RAtheMC, Pro’Verb, Kingpen Slim and more. I am getting through the tape as I type and the it should satisfy his fans and get him new ones too, so if you aren’t up on this one it’s time to quit sleeping sleep on him! Tracklist and download link below the break.

Lyriciss – The Practice (Video Trailer)
January 20

This is in preparation for his mixtape The Practice.

The Practice is the culmination of struggle, of the hustle and grind, of the interminable will to succeed despite all odds. It is the summation of raw emotion not quite quantifiable and the epitome of optimism at its highest form when life pushes the other way.

iLLVibes made it a point to be a part of Lyriciss’ squad to promote this project. We’ve been students of his music and of his work ethic for a while now, so it was only right that we got on board to do all we can to help push this project. Along with this promo, expect a mini-series of sorts, as we got a chance to catch up with the Voice of the Metro, a documentary chronicling just a few days in the life of Lyriciss. It’s the Practice!

Get ready for the 26th!
