Childish Gambino – Culdesac Mixtape
July 30

Culdesac being put up here has been a long time coming and I’m glad I got to do it, although it is late. Donald Glover, the actor from Community and former writer for 30 Rock, has released several mixtapes and this smash is the most recent. Yep, I said smash! I had my personal doubts about it because of the rapper/actor thing and really wanted to trash it but then I put it on and the dude is DOPE! He spits some of the wittier lines I have consistently heard in some time and the dude switches it up for the songs. My favorite from this album is the Adele sampled “Do Ya Like” but “I Be On That”, “Got This Money” & “Difference” (yes, generic names but it is still that good) all stand out to me but I have listened to the whole thing many times through at this point. I’m back from my mini-vacation and now I have recovered enough from Vegas to start posting regularly on B&B. Marky hits us with the third tape in his mixtape trilogy called Journey to Markyland and this is where his most recent slew of songs have come from and as always he remixes both classic and recent hits. Every tape of Marky’s to date has gotten rotation for some time on my iTunes and with the three bangers linked above this one is sure to join the other three. Grab the mixtape and tracklist below the break.

Oddisee – West Coast Beats: Hosted By Trek Life
July 22

Oddisee pays his respects to the Left Coast with this instrumental album partially inspired by Trek Life’s upcoming album.

In preparation for Trek Life’s new album “Everything Changed Nothing” available July 27th, I put together a “West Coast” beat-tape.
Coming from the city of Go-Go, I’ve always loved production inspired by funk. when it comes to funk inspired hip hop, no body does it like the west. While I was on the west producing Trek Life’s album that inspiration went further than being a fan. I don’t know if it was the palm trees, beaches, or burgers but this is what I was making in LA. Listen, Download, Enjoy & purchase “Everything Changed Nothing”

Gilbere Forte – 87 Dreams Mixtape
July 21
under: mixtape

Philly MC Gilbere Forte dropped his debut project yesterday and from the singles I have heard so far it is dope. Gilbere is all over the hip-hop map with his songs, some softer ones, some harder, some catchier and others mixing in indie artists like Freelance Whales. I am a little upset we didn’t get to post the song “Black Chukkas” either since it is the one that bangs the most of his songs but now you can get it on the album. We hit you with the first single off of the tape by Freebass808 with Tabi Bonney and now here is the whole joint.

World, meet Anatomy Magazine’s Great American Mixtape: Side B, by Mick Boogie & Terry Urban. This side, in contrast to The Hood Internet release, features America’s favorite rock hits translated into block rockin’ hip-hop tracks ready to kick a hole in your speakers and your perception of the genre. That is because Side B of the Great American Mixtape does something that no other mixtape has done before: It truly cross pollinates rock music artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Guns and Roses, The Doors and Led Zeppelin with hip hop into one comprehensive and radiant piece of work with thought provoking soundscapes that reveal everything that the hip-hop genre can be.
