Barack Obama is the next president of the United States. Wow it feels good to say that! New York City was going absolutely crazy. I was a few blocks from my apartment when 11:00pm hit and they announced that Virginia and other states were going for Obama and that he would be the next president. I figured out that he won by a couple of cabs beeping behind me. Initially I thought it was just random traffic, but I turned around to see that they were at a red light. Then I heard some screaming immediately after and I knew exactly what had happened. As I walked as fast as I could home I continued to hear the cars beeping and people literally shouting "OBAMA!" out of their windows. Wow, the city wasn't even this excited when the Giants won the Superbowl last year. Hit the break to read more and see pictures. I finally get home and drop off everything and immediately hit the streets again. I continuously hear "Obama!" and walk by several groups who scream to me as I walk by and I give them the obligatory fist pump. This sets off more celebration but I leave them to go down to 3rd where I hear a lot of people gathering. Turning the corner I see a large crowd of young people, probably 60 strong, on 3rd Ave. all screaming at cars honking as they pass/almost hit them. People are going bananas! Girls dance in front of cars trying to pass, guys jump on the hoods of cars and almost every car gets pounded with hands as they pass. Some real crazy YouTube shit haha. After about 20-30 minutes of this craziness, and several laps by the cops about 8 cop cars roll up and get everyone to the sidewalk after a while but are still shutting down half of 3rd Ave. About an hour after it all started, 7-8 more cop cars come and start clearing the sidewalks. I head out after I see this start to happen and grab a celebratory beer and watch Obama's acceptance speech in a packed bar where everyone was quiet the whole time to watch the speech.
