And now something to wash out the bad taste “Satellite” left in your mouth. This will be off of DJ Quiz’s Quiz Knows A Mixtape, which also features the likes of Shawn Chrystopher, XV and Skyzoo. From The Real Frequency:

DJ Quiz drops a mixtape sponsored by  Nah Right, Rappers I Know, That’s Enuff & Peter Rosenberg, which features bangers from Danny Brown, Skyzoo, Torae, Donny Goines, and more. The tape also includes a brand new joint by Tona featuring Richie Hennessey on the hook and Rich Kidd on production.

“Blue Shield” has a nice late night hip-hop radio show vibe to it and as usual, Tona delivers. Download this track and the full mixtape here.

DJ RTC at RubyHornet tells us how this collab came about with the two artists repping the other’s city.

I really dug into Skyzoo’s material while making the first Brainiac Mixtape with Naledge. He put two Skyzoo tracks on the mix, I was more than impressed. I went back into Sky’s catalog and eagerly awaited the release of his debut LP, The Salvation. Shortly before the album’s release, I had the chance to interview Skyzoo and he told me that he heard about Closed Sessions, and our Dimes and Dozens party in which we bring out of town artists into Chicago and have them perform at our monthly event. He expressed interest in doing the same, and I was definitely with it. We organized a show for Skyzoo at The Darkroom, and setup a Closed Session for him the following day. Virgil and Ruben took Sky all around the city before his show, and when he hit SoundScape we could all tell that Chicago had made an impression on him. Rhymefest ended up just being at the studio during Skyzoo’s session, the two hit it off very quickly with help from this K-Salaam and Beatnik track, and the concept for “Crack The Code” was born. Skyzoo’s verse centers on the intricacies of Chicago, while Rhymefest raps about the nature of New York City. It’s an homage to two great homes for Hip Hop, and a pairing of two great emcees.

Dope concept and I wish we got more stories of how songs came to be recorded like this one.

Here is a bunch of music we missed on our 2 week hiatus and instead of posting them up individually I decided to put them all in one big post. I actually have been thinking of starting to do this every couple weeks because there are always some songs that slip through the cracks and don’t get posted for one reason or another. Above is the video for the Lyriciss track “Doing My Job” off of his mixtape The Day Job. Click the break below to check out Pro’Verb, Skyzoo, A. Pinks and a hot Lykke Li remix. A. Pinks hits us with his new mixtape called Will Rap 4 Food and it is dope. The track above is called “Incredible” featuring Mickey Factz, Skyzoo and Torae. I have been a fan of A. Pinks for a couple years now and am glad to see him doing great things this year. But instead of me doing all the typing I will let the artist explain the mixtape himself.

You are in store for a special 2009 beginning with “Will Rap 4 Food.” The theme of the project is exemplified accurately through the title. I’m hungry, and that’s precisely what I’d like you to take away from this tape. If you were expecting  puppy dogs and white lilies…think again! This is no frills, full metal jacket, reckless abandon. Just so were clear..I’m Goin’ In!!!

Wordsmith ft. Skyzoo, Unlearn, Donny Goines & RAtheMC – “Game, Set, Point”

“This is grown folks music, you a child like Seaworld” haha. Wordsmith gives us a real nice surprise today by dropping a great song featuring a lot of young rappers on the scene. He’s also repping most of the big cities on the east coast on this record with the artist being from DC, NY and Baltimore. All of the verses are good and the beat, produced by Street Level, is quality with a mash of samples as the chorus.

SIdenote: I know the title would make more sense as “Game, Set, Match” but I put “Point” because that is how the track is labeled.

Skyzoo and Torae teamed up at a CMJ event this past week to perform their song “Get It Done”. For those of you that don’t know, CMJ is a huge music festival that goes on for a week or two up here in NYC every fall. It showcases various genres of music (rock, hip-hop and everything in between) and there are dozens of shows every night all over the city. Here is just one of the little gems that occurred during CMJ.
