Lupe gives us a video for his song “Solar Midnite” which graced the New Moon soundtrack. The album is an orgy full of indie rockers and Lupe takes a hard rock edge to fill in nicely for the hip-hop contingent on the album. The video itself is a bunch of set shots in the city and some scenes from the movie and flows together nicely considering it’s for a teeny-bopper film. The soundtrack album is pretty incredible and you don’t have to be into the series to go get it.

OK, I lied. I said I wasn’t going to post anything else from the New Moon soundtrack but that was before they dropped the bomb on us that Lupe would be on it. Here is what he had to say about it.

“Solar Midnite is my first commercial release that I actually produced as well as wrote. The New Moon team asked me if I could do a song specifically for the film. They invited me to an early screening of the unfinished film from which I pulled different elements that I thought would translate into a great song. I pulled in vocalist and bassist Graham Burris and acclaimed musician Matt Nelson to help fill it out my vision musically and “joila” Solar Midnite was born. The song basically deals with the chaotic love story that takes place between the characters. It’s more on the rock side of my musical catalog and comes straight from my die hard fanhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Keidis, one of my FAVORITE RAPPERS.”

That’s interesing, Lupe is producing now too, just in time for his last album.
