I am going to make up for missing “Killer People” on Friday by being one of the first to post “Bonafide”. “Bonafide” sounds more finished than “Killer People” and seems like it would be more appealing to the general public. It isn’t bad it just sounds a lower quality with the mix (which is probably a leak anyways) and also the trippier vocals on the chorus. A Place Called Stardom will supposedly be out today and is the first mixtape ever from Tabi so look keep looking out for it. “Bonafide” was premiered by Prefix and only has the soundcloud with no download available for now but you can grab “Killer People” below the break.
Tabi showcases his versatility in this video with his company, Cool Kids Forever, directing the video, him sporting the Bonney Runway clothes and the music to top it all off. “I Came Up” is a quick song but I am feeling it with minimalistic beat and visuals that utilize the black and white effect to keep your attention. His lyrics has always been on the simplistic side but the guy knows how to write a hook that will be stuck in your head for days. I have no idea if this is from an upcoming project or just a one off to appease the fans but I am hoping this means his next album will be dropping in the near future.
Phil keeps getting more buzz every month and now he gets the DMV heavy hitters Wale, Raheem Devaughn & Tabi to join him and the Chef on a remix of this single. “Hollywood” was initially on his mixtape Starting on JV which I consider still underrated although it has surely given him more attention. Our continuing technical problems didn’t allow me to post the video for “Always There” so I am including that with the download after the break. Look out too for Phil’s upcoming tape with Don Cannon called The Letterman which is releasing in June July 6th.
I had to do a double take when I saw this title and it said Disco Biscuits and Ski doing a remix together. Although I haven’t listened to the Disco Biscuits a lot, they were a band that several of my friends listened to throughout college and I never saw the jam band scene and hip-hop collaborating on a song like this or the rumored whole mixtape that is supposedly coming later. Tabi has to be the person on the middle verse too, I haven’t seen anyone list it but I would be shocked to learn someone else sounded that similar to him. Several fans on other sites were ripping this but it sounded pretty good to me and at the very least the visuals are dope so enjoy it.
Since I feel jii like crap today it is only appropriate to post this one.
Congrats to Darren and Lega-C for getting Tabi on the track who is one of my favorite DC artists. Grab the stream at the link below because I am having uploading troubles at the moment.
YouHeardThatNew x Beats By Dre Present: Eighty81 x DJ Steph Floss – He’s The Blogger, I’m The DJ v.4 Mixtape
I haven’t seen many people with this download but it has 3 joints from Tabi Bonney on there (including one of my favorites “Nothin’ But A Hero”) as well as songs from Rashad, Ray Cash and the Niceguys.
It is worth grabbing this whole tape just to get the first legit download of “Nothin But A Hero”. Shouts to 2DBz for the look and grab the tracklist and download below the break.
It’s always nice to open up your inbox and see a track from an artist like Tabi, who I get most of the music he releases, but doesn’t flood the internet with tracks. Tabi takes a step away from directing and features for a minute to give us another song that is all his own. The beat for this one is vicious too, it is NERD-esque and Tabi adds his usual catchy but simple chorus. I have no idea the placement for the song but I really hope that it means his album Fresh will be hitting stores soon.
Download: Tabi Bonney – “Get Me”
Two of the DMV’s hottest artists of the past several years come together for a song off of Raheem’s tape Mr. February (even though the video is credited to Tabi). Tabi and his Cool Kids Forever company direct the video and it has the original shot setups that I have come to expect from him. I first heard this song around the same time that “Nuthin’ But A Hero” dropped and wasn’t feeling it as much at the time but it has grown on me. “Nuthin’ But A Hero” could be my favorite song by him still but this joint has a very distinct feel thanks to the addictive Raheem aided chorus. Now I can’t wait for his album Fresh which has been slated to drop for a long time now and I need more music to back up my Dope album.
What’s up everybody and I hope all our US readers had a good President’s/Valentine’s Day weekend and per usual it is time to get back to work. A couple weeks ago the DMV producer Judah released an instrumental tape focused around the theme of Kanye’s girlfriend, Amber Rose. DMV spitters RAtheMC (whose song “Brenda” is above) and Tabi Bonney each picked a song and remixed them by adding vocals and RA even made the typically short songs from the project longer. The tape initially slipped through the cracks here at B&B but to rectify the situation we are posting these songs as well as the tape download below the break.
First we gave you the Jams but now it is time for the hip-hop gems. I said in the previous post that the past couple days I came up with the idea to post a few mixes that sum up my year in music. These joints are all songs that were some of the more solid underground songs that I listened to this past year and deserve more shine. A number of my favorite new artists are on there and this is another mix that is pretty damn complete. Look out for our final installment of rock songs which should drop over the next couple days. Link and tracklist are below the break and everyone have a happy and safe New Year!
