We had a Lasers scare the other day where we were told the song “Lean” was possibly from the album when it actually was mad old. “What U Want” on the other hand is supposedly a confirmed track from the album and I am digging the simple beat with Lupe doing his thing over it. Lupe will certainly shit a brick upon hearing/seeing this so enjoy it before the man comes down on our humble blog asses. I just hope this doesn’t mean he delays the album further to redo it because he unrealistically thinks he can keep the whole thing from leaking until it drops. Is this song the latest from Lasers to leak or an unreleased joint seeing its first light of day? I have heard both and am unsure but you can bet Lupe will have something to say about another one of his records leaking. Personally, I don’t think it is from Lasers although that is based solely on the sound and rhyming and not on any credible facts. EDIT: According to FakeShoreDrive I am right, but 10 years old… Lupe is truly on that next shit. Even though Lupe has yet to fully embrace the internet culture with these leaks I have to say I eagerly go and listen to any music the guy puts out and will gladly throw money down whenever he drops his album. No this is not the same song we posted several months back by Lupe with the exact same title of “Fire”. In this song Lupe samples heavily from Jimi Hendrix’s song of the same name and I have to say it is dope. As someone who used to play guitar, I must admit that I would normally be very wary of someone sampling such an iconic musician but if anyone can pull it off in all of hip-hop it is Lupe and he does it nicely. Lupe’s lyrics are quality (”my mind used to be a sponge, now it’s a ShamWow”) and the only part I didn’t like was the low quality recording but that is to be expected from leaked records from the past. Well I told you it would be soon but I didn’t think it would be this soon. Lupe hits us with the first single off of his upcoming album We Are Lasers right after he dropped the unreleased track “Fire” and it features the familiar voice of Matthew Santos. The song has a very unique beat that Lupe spits his creative verses and punchlines on top of and it is easy to get lost in all of it. This is not a knock on the song, just a roundabout way to say that it is has a great overall sound. Still no idea on the release date but I’m hoping this single is a sign that it is coming soon.
