XV – Zero Heroes Mixtape
April 19

I know it says mixtape but this joint could easily pass as an album. The production includes Just Blaze, J. Cole and Seven and he brings a gang of guests which is unusual for Vizzy on a tape. We have all been anxiously awaiting The Kid with the Green Backpack for a long ass time now but with all the material in his tapes it is easy to forget that it is the ultimate end goal. Going through this the first time and XV is killing it with some slower polished beats dominating the first few tracks. Thanks to DatPiff for the link and you all should go over there and check out their tape selection again. I hadn’t been in a long time until recently and they have some bangers and also the ability to stream which is crucial for my work. Grab the tracklist and download link below the break.

XV ft. CyHi Da Prynce, Vado & Erin Christine – “All For Me” (Video)

OK I will admit that I was less than enthused to see XV teaming up with the two overhyped sidekicks of rap but after listening I am pleasantly surprised. Their verses aren’t necessarily opinion changing but the feel good vibe of the song did just that. The horn loop had me bouncing up and down in my seat and the chorus is damn catchy. For the record too, I have listened to Erin Christine before and she is one of my favorite new R&B artists so I was excited to hear that collaboration. I have no idea the placement of this song but will let you know should I find out.

XV unleashes this little ditty for us which has him going in over the latest Jay & Kanye song called “H.A.M.”. We all know that every rapper and their brother will remix this joint due to lack of originality and everyone being on Kanye’s jock  so I wasn’t too excited to see that XV also wanted to hop on the bandwagon too. The song is alright and is certainly a deviation from his typical jams and it will do him alright as a one off joint that never sees a tape/record. One thing I will say after one listen though is that this one is better than the original and I can’t believe I am saying that considering who is on that one.

Damn this beat reminds me of a classic one that I can’t put my finger on at the moment but if you can help me out hit me up in the comment section. Vizzy finally gets some visuals for this joint off of Vizzy Zone and it is what I like to call a mixtape video. By that I mean it is a couple different shots edited together and there isn’t much of a concept or plot which is typical of rappers who don’t have an album track and WMG isn’t springing for one that isn’t on his upcoming album. Anyways enjoy and keep your eyes and ears out for The Kid with the Green Backpack sometime in the future.

Add Vizzy to the list of artists who have remixed something from Kanye’s new album and this time it is over the “Dark Fantasy” beat. I fully expect every beat on that album to get the remix treatment from tons of artists and I wouldn’t be shocked to hear the Gil Scott-Heron joint at the end remixed either. XV does do the beat justice, he is one of the few new artists who probably will and he also makes it into a full song instead of one of those 1:30-2:30 quick ones. We still are The Kid with the Green Backpack-less and I expect this to be a one off remix.

XV decides to take his shot at J. Cole’s “Blow Up” beat which has been remixed by a TON of artists. The dude kills it though, his rhymes are some of my favorite for the combined lyricism and polished flow making even his remixes sound like his own. “Willy Wonkavator” is probably just a one off song to keep his buzz up as we eagerly anticipate his debut album called The Kid with the Green Backpack which has been in the works forever at this point. Shout outs to the boyz at the dopehouse for the link and the streaming audio.

XV hasn’t done much wrong over the past several months and he continues that near perfect streak with a quick freestyle to keep the buzz going. This is a remix of Drake and Weezy’s joint of the same name and the beat even sounds like something Seven would whip up for him. There aren’t too many of the new kids who bring the lyrics as consistently as XV and that is why this album may be my most anticipated debut since Cudi. There is still no word on when his debut album The Kid With The Green Backpack is dropping but it will be a definite cop for the skills and the crossover capabilities.

What’s that? You’ve been waiting for the Vizzy Zone tape to be released without the DJ tags and with bonus tracks? Well consider today you’re birthday, Christmas and Hanukkah all rolled into one because XV delivers just that with the latest edition of this project. Vizzy Zone has been my most played tape since it dropped several weeks ago and I strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t given it a listen to download this version and pay attention one time through and I guarantee you’ll be back for more. The whole thing is damn good but there are a good 6 songs on it that have made my continual playlists and that is an extremely high number for any artist. Thanks to the Booth for the project and grab the tracklist and download link below the break.

XV – “Theme To Vizzy Zone” (Prod. Seven)(Full CDQ)

“Theme To Vizzy Zone” was the intro on Vizzy Zone and got the full track treatment for this version being released in the deluxe edition. Seven produces the track again and he decided to chop the ultimate chick breakup song in “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and added some synths to make it more club friendly. I have been listening to this mixtape since it dropped a week ago and it only gets better with more listens and it has quite a few standout tracks. Our friends over at the Booth will be releasing this no DJ deluxe version on September 23rd and it almost feels like I’m getting away with something by downloading it for free.
