I hope you’re ready to go on a Bollywood acid trip because that is what this video contains when you watch it. This very well could be the cheapest to produce Hype Williams video to date too with the cheap effects going for the kitschy look instead of the highly stylized vids he has been known to make in the past. As for this song and album, I am disappointed with MIA. I have tried my best to like the album because of MIA’s prior work but it isn’t doing it for me. I can see this song getting radio play due to it’s pop sound but it isn’t a listen over and over again track and none on the new records are either. MIA’s purposefully controversial and ignorant viewpoints also don’t help her cause with the new album flopping but I guess at least her name is in the news. As I type this a new MIA video is also hitting the web and it is dizzying and also not so good to say the least. Grab the new one, “Illy Girl”, below the break.
Sorry yall, it seems these singles are on lockdown so it is back to the soundcloud MP3 players only. The more I hear “XXXO” the more I realize it is a smash that will get tons of radio play and with Jay on the remix you can guarantee that will only help the cause over the radio waves and in the club. I’m glad that MIA is back to concentrating on music instead of fighting with reporters over truffle french fries, all the sideshow fights detract from her actual talent. Shouts to Hypetrak for the song and take a listen to the “Steppin’ Up” stream below the break.
We were temporarily down while this came out but it is something I wanted to post since her last video created quite the stir. This song sees MIA taking a drastically different turn from “Born Free” which is almost punk rock while “XXXO” has more of the teeny bopper vibe to it. By the looks of it this album is going to be all over the place in terms of genres and I got no problems with that. The album has been rumored to be titled ^^^Y^ for her name but there is also a rumor going around that it still hasn’t received a title. Since Rusko & Blaqstarr produced the song I am including Blaqstarr’s original demo below the break.
